Built to Tour — 2025 MU-X X-Terrain Project
The 2025 MU-X X-Terrain is already one of the most capable touring wagons on the market, but for serious travellers, factory spec is just the starting point. This build focuses on practical touring performance, towing stability, and long-distance reliability — with upgrades chosen for purpose rather than flash.
Rear suspension support comes courtesy of an Airbag Assist kit from Air Bag Man, allowing adjustable load control whether running empty or hitched to a caravan. It keeps the vehicle level, improves handling, and reduces stress on factory suspension components.
To protect the drivetrain during towing duties, a transmission oil cooler kit from Wholesale Automatics was added. Lower temps mean smoother shifting and long-term gearbox reliability — essential for Australian touring conditions.
Lighting was upgraded using a stealth spotlight setup adapted from a D-MAX kit, giving powerful night visibility while maintaining a factory-style appearance. For communications, a GME XRS UHF paired with a bracket from Pirate Camp Co. ensures reliable convoy and remote-area comms.
Protection is handled by advanced paint protection film installed by BushWraps, shielding high-impact panels from stone chips and bush scratches — a must for touring rigs.
The stance is completed with 18-inch ARC wheels from ROH wrapped in 265/60R18 all-terrain rubber from Toyo, delivering a balance of road comfort, off-road traction, and towing stability.
A wireless 6-inch rearview monitor rounds out the setup, giving constant visibility behind the caravan for safer lane changes and reversing.
The result: a clean, capable touring wagon built for real travel — not just show.
